Top Ten Tuesday (11): Reading Wishlist

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the gals at The Broke and the Bookish. For this week, it’s the Top Items On My Reading Wishlist. 

 

 1. A SEQUEL TO ELEANOR & PARK BY RAINBOW ROWELL

I would take even a short-story or a novella or an epilogue. I just need to know more about them, about how they’ve been doing since that last since in the book. Pretty please…

2. MORE ROMANCE NOVELS WITH LIBRARIANS OR BOOKWORMS AS THE MAIN CHARACTER

I really want to read more about these people become the heroes or heroines of their own stories and not just read or work around books.

3. MORE PLUS-SIZED HEROINES

Not that I don’t enjoy the trend. But once in a while, it feels a little bit contrite to read about heroines that somehow look like each other all the time. I’d love to read more books where the heroines are plus-sized but the story is not centered on their weight or their body-type.

4. MORE MULTI-FACETED AND LAYERED VILLAINS

As much as books are about the characters, the integral part of a story is really the conflict. So if an author uses a villain as the main conflict, I want to read about a villain who’s not one-dimensional. I want him or her to be as complicated as they can get. I want to care for him or her, on what his or her motivations are, what makes him or her tick.

5. HEROES WHO AREN’T PHYSICALLY PERFECT

The most recent I’ve read is Hugh Prentice from Julia Quinn’s The Sum of All Kisses. He suffered a broken leg because of a gun shot so he has a limp that will never heal. But I loved how he was portrayed in the book. I want more of this kind of hero. Not so much the ultimate perfection in all things physical.

6. LESS LOVE TRIANGLES

I have said this before and I will say this again. I never liked love triangles. In fact, I hate them. So the less I read of them incorporated in a story, the more books I will have the opportunity to read.

7. MORE RE-TELLINGS

I just love it when beloved classics are retold beautifully. I especially like fairy-tale re-tellings. And I think it would also be interesting if Disney classics were retold as well.

8. MORE NALINI SINGH BOOKS

Since one can never really go wrong with a Nalini Singh work, I just want more of those. If it will be at all possible to have a Nalini Singh book published every month, in whatever universe that may be, I would want to be in that universe.

9. MORE HISTORICAL ROMANCES LIKE THOSE OF WRITTEN BY COURTNEY MILAN, ELIZABETH HOYT, & SARAH MACLEAN

Courtney Milan, Elizabeth Hoyt, and Sarah MacLean are some of my ultimate favorite authors in historical romance. The fresh storylines, surprising characters, and distinct settings that they have presented to their readers book after book are what keeps me hooked in this beloved genre of mine. I want to read more authors who write stories similar to what these amazing storytellers dish out for their fans with every release.

10. A MISUNDERSTOOD VILLAIN WHO ENDS UP WITH THE HEROINE

I always read authors explain how when they’re writing, sometimes their characters just tell the story on their own or would do something completely surprising and not in the plan at all and the authors would go with it because their voices are just so distinct they can’t drown them out.

I would love to read a book where there’s a hero and heroine in the beginning of the story but then the villain would totally steal the show and end up with the heroine. And the author goes with it. because. it. makes. sense. for. the. story.
