Feature & Follow Friday (12): My Reading Habits

An awesome idea to make friends in the blogosphere, Feature & Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee & Alison Can Read. It’s a great opportunity to find and follow new blogs. Every week, they feature bloggers on their sites and we get to learn more about them as they answer some questions. Each week also features a question that we can share our answers to.

 

Question of the Week: 

How have your reading habits changed in the past few years? Did you get interested in a new genre? Do you read more? Less? Why do you think your habits changed, if they did.


A couple of years ago, my reading was really just focused on some of my favorite authors in historical romance and contemporary romance. But then I got interested in YA (even when I didn’t even know it was called as such ^_^). And then I discovered Harry Potter and so the fantasy genre also entered the picture. Two years ago, I got interested in paranormal romance. And then last year, in NA. I’m really glad that the types of genre I enjoy reading have expanded. And there are so many gems out there, sometimes it’s a little overwhelming but at the same time exciting and fulfilling (once you read them).

 

When I was in college, I remember not reading as much as I would have wanted to. But after graduation and two years of work, I found myself reading more and more, especially with the dawn of the e-reader and eBooks. There was a bit of a phase in my reading where I read eBooks alone on my nook or phone. But I missed reading paperbacks terribly and so I went back halfway and I’m now spending time reading between eBooks and paperbacks.

Lastly, blogging has made a great and important impact on my reading habits. I just started blogging in September 2013 and I’ve been introduced to so many awesome books that I never would have known or even try to read before I started my blog. It’s great!

  1. Haven’t heard of this meme before, I’m going to try and join in next week 🙂 For me, I grew up being an avid reader, but then I put it aside to focus on kids/being mom. Then 3 years ago I discovered Goodreads and that rekindled my love of reading! Since then it’s been a wild ride-I’ve read hundreds of books, discovered new genres (YA, steampunk, PNR and UF), and most recently, have started a blog and have begun writing book reviews for the first time 🙂

    1. I look forward to your FF posts in the future. Goodreads really is a big help for me as well as book blogging. They’re opening doors to genre and books that I would not otherwise read.

  6. You are right, there are lots of gems out there. I’ve read some really good NA books.
    To answer your question, (a great one btw) my favorite NA authors are:
    Rachel Van Dyken- Seaside series, Elite series, Ruin series
    Abbi Glines- Sea Breeze series- NA, Fallen too far series NA & Existence series- paranormal.
    Jenny L. Armentrout/ J. Lynn- anything by her! Obsidian series- paranormal & her adult books are good as well.
    E. B. Walters/ Ednah Walters (same person)- Runes series- paranormal, The Fitzgerald Family series- NA
    Kristen Proby- With me in Seattle series NA
    J.S. Scott- The billionaire’s obsession series

    1. Thank you so much for all the recommendations! I’ve only read Jennifer Armentrout and I really liked her writing style. Plus I have colleagues of mine who are currently devouring her Lux and Covenant series and I can’t wait to join in.

  7. Blogging definitely keeps me updated on all popular books. Living in Germany, I’d hear about them like one year later if at all. So it does help me too to find the gems. 😉

  10. I love my Kindle took, but, as my blog name suggests, I love the smell of an actual book. The paper and Ink. I’d never be able to completely leave paper books behind.

    1. The Harry Potter series did change a lot of people’s lives. It was published when a lot of young people are moving away from books and engaging in other hobbies and in an unexpected turn, that book series somehow brought some of those people back to reading. 🙂
