No matter how much their mothers wanted Sarah and Arthur to wed, Sarah had loathed him. However, circumstance and her late husband’s father conspire against her, and she is forced to turn to Arthur for help. Perhaps she needs his legal expertise, but she refuses to acknowledge how handsome her oldest foe has become…or her reaction to him.

His childhood nemesis is the last person Arthur Davenport expected to require his services. When a spurious claim against her late husband’s estate brings Sarah Wetherall to his door, he can’t refuse the pretty widow.

Thrown together by fate, will they discover there is a fine line between scorn and passion?

Interview with Cassandra Dean:

Could you tell us more about your latest release, SILK & SCORN?

Certainly! SILK & SCORN is the second in The Silk Series, stories about men and women who love the law and attended or lived in Cambridge, England.

SILK & SCORN is the tale of childhood nemeses, Sarah Wetherall (nee Stanhope) and Arthur Davenport. They reunite when Sarah requires Arthur’s legal expertise. Her late husband passed away without a will and her former father-in-law is trying to claim the estate. Arthur, as a solicitor specialising in wills and estate planning, is uniquely positioned to help her, and though all his childhood antagonism comes flooding back, he can’t resist her request…and he can’t help but notice how very pretty she still is.

As for Sarah, she’s positively loath to ask for help from Arthur Davenport, but for all his other faults, she knows he’s an outstanding solicitor, and it irks her something shocking that the gangly boy she remembers has grown into an intriguingly handsome man.

How would you describe your writing process?

A mix of plotting and pantsing. I like to a brief paragraph or two about each chapter to get the plot out as a whole and then write a bit at the beginning of each scene with what I’d like to happen. Then that all gets thrown out the window when new bits and pieces occur to me in the middle of writing! It’s always interesting to compare what my first outline is to what the final draft contains – it’s usually completely different!

What is in your top list of most memorable events since you started your career as a writer?

*  Holding my first print book! I’m predominantly published in ebook but my second published work, TEACH ME, is also out in print. The day my author copies arrived and I held them in my hand were super dooper exciting! I documented the moment on Instagram for all to see 🙂

*  Receiving my first contract was amazing as well. At the time, I was convinced it was a mistake and it wasn’t until I’d signed the contract, sent it back and received my official copy as well as my editor that I knew it was real!

*  Attending the first Romance Writers of Australia conference after I was published and proudly displaying my “FIRST SALE” ribbon on my conference pass.

What’s next for Cassandra Dean?

I’m working on the third in The Silk Series, SILK & SCARS, the first to feature a law-loving lady and her eventual soulmate. I’m also working on the third book in my Western series, EMERALD SEA, and a new project for my publisher, an interpretation of Sleeping Beauty.

Thanks for having me!

Setting her jaw, she shook her head. “You don’t understand! Robert’s family has been plaguing me for months. Months! And yet you insist you can disentangle them from my life in ten minutes. How is that possible? How?”

Something niggled at him, something that whispered she might be right, but his anger wouldn’t allow him to pause. “It is possible because it is the law. Your money is safe from them.”

“It’s not about the money.”

He raised a brow. “No?”

She scowled. “Money is necessary. It allows me to eat and keep a roof over my head, but the Wetheralls are attempting to nullify everything Robert and I meant to each other. They are claiming my marriage invalid, as if it never happened. But it did, and no matter what they do or what they say, they cannot change that.”

“So your concern is solely with the memories you possess? And I suppose you married him for this great love you felt, but what is it they say? It’s just as easy to love a rich man as a poor one?”

Such fury entered her expression that if he were not so caught up in his own anger, he would have desisted. “That isn’t why I married him.”

“Then why did you marry him?”

“So I wouldn’t have to marry you!”
