Everyone in Marietta, Montana, is in love and getting married – at least that’s the way it feels to Andie Bennett the night of the Valentine’s Ball. As she watches the man she’s loved from afar for half her life dance with another woman, Andie allows herself a moment of sheer fantasy as she fills out a stray entry form for the Great Wedding Giveaway. Andie channels years of fantasy and yearning for Heath McGregor onto the page, but she never intends to actually enter the Giveaway. Only a crazy woman would do that. But fate has other ideas….

When Heath learns he and Andie are last minute finalists in the Great Wedding Giveaway, he’s completely baffled. How on earth could anyone make such a ridiculous mistake? When it becomes clear that Andie will be humiliated if the slip-up becomes public, Heath does what any good friend would – he suggests they pretend the engagement is real until the Giveaway is over and then quietly “break up” when no one is paying any attention. It’s the perfect solution, except Heath very quickly realises that pretending Andie is his is no hardship at all. In fact, it may just be the best thing that’s ever happened to him…

My Review:

Sarah Mayberry is one of my favorite authors. If she wrote it, I’ll definitely read it. No contest and no hesitations. I’ve read her first Montana Born Brides, Almost A Bride, and loved it. And I feel the same way about this second book of hers.

What worked for me?

Some may think that it’s a far-fetched set-up with the giveaway but I totally buy it. And for me, it was so easy to picture that questionnaire that Andie filled out be submitted by a stranger who probably saw it on one of the dining tables during the party. It’s not completely out of this world for something like this to happen. Sometimes, you just can’t stop fate.

I absolutely love the dynamic of the relationship between Andie and Heath. If you’ve followed my blog, you know that I absolutely love the best friend-sister romance trope so this one gets 5 stars from me on that account. But what I further enjoyed that even though they already have that dynamic, they are good friends. They’ve known each other since they were young and beyond the attraction or the unrequited love (at least for Andie), the basis of their connection with each other is that of friendship and I love that. So it was a treat watching Heath eventually take notice of the depth of his feelings for Andie. I can forgive him for not realizing it sooner since for the most part of their relationship, he did not even allow himself to think of her that way. It was like a conscious decision for him because he did not want to complicate his friendship with Andie and with his best friend. But who needs a neat and tidy life, right? The awesomeness of life is in the complications. And I just totally felt for Andie the entire time. But I also appreciated the fact that she is brave and took the chance even with the cloud of doubt hanging over their relationship.

What did not work for me?

I have absolutely no regrets for this book other than the length. You probably know by now my love for Sarah Mayberry so every time I read any of her works, I just seem to want more and more, never wanting them to end. This is no different. I wanted more because it’s so good.

My over-all take on it?

This was such a sweet and steamy story from Sarah Mayberry. But there were also those poignant moments that really pull you in and make you believe in her characters. I hope you guys will try this one out. I’d definitely recommend it.

My rating:

 4-5 stars
