My Review:

 

Why did I want to read this book?

It’s Nalini Singh. I think for some that would be enough reason. It is for me. But in addition, I liked that she’s venturing into a whole new genre and while the first book in this series was far from perfect, I still really, really liked it. And I was so excited when I learned that this next book is going to be about David and Thea.

 

What worked for me?

What can be more sexier than a faithful man? I love the initial premise where in the beginning, you know David felt a lot more about Thea than the other way around. And it was amazing watching David pull all the stops to start and build a relationship with Thea despite her misgivings about dating a rock star and being in a relationship per se. David was such a dreamboat because of his steadfastness, his genuine care for Thea, his perseverance, and patience.

Thea, on the other hand, is also a very formidable heroine. I love her closeness to her family. I love how independent, strong, and loyal she is. Her ex-boyfriend was a douche and that last relationship did leave some emotional scars. I really felt for her when she almost questioned herself and her career and life choices because her ex was an insecure man who was jealous of her success in life but I was so happy that she realized that she doesn’t have anything to apologize for about herself.

The memo that they wrote and sent to each other was one of the highlights of the story, for me. Each one was sexy but very convincing in their honesty.

I loved the pacing of the story and how Nalini didn’t feel the need to linger on certain scenes or plot points as one would have expected if it were another book. There was this perfect momentum to the story that I really, really enjoyed. Plus, David and Lea were combustible together. Serious fire and heat, you guys.

 

What did not work for me?

I had just a minor issue about the trajectory of one of the conflicts in the story. I understood the need for it, story-wise and I guess, looking back, I couldn’t think of anything better than what Nalini had chosen. But I did get the feeling that it was a little too cliche already. I’m not sure if I wanted another conflict or just wanted a different direction in that regard.

 

My over-all take on it?

This was a great follow up for her NA series. I actually loved this much, much more than Rock Addiction. There was just something really special about the whole set-up for David and Thea’s relationship. And it’s always a treat to watch a very nice and decent guy woo the woman of his dreams.
