When soccer all-star Jax Avery collides with Dani Hart on his twenty-first birthday, their connection is instantaneous and explosive. For the first time in years, Jax isn’t interested in his usual hit-it and quit-it approach.

But Dani knows better. Allowing herself a night to be carefree and feel the intensity of their attraction won’t change anything when it comes to dealing with a player. So when Jax doesn’t recognize Dani the next time he sees her, it shouldn’t be a total shock. The fact that he’s her new roommate’s brother? That’s a shock.

Dani doesn’t regret that night with Jax, just the need to lie about it. Since her roommate has made it clear what she thinks about her brother’s “type” of girl, the last thing Dani wants is to admit what happened.

Jax knows he’s walking a fine line on the soccer team. One more misstep and he’s off the roster, his plans to go pro be damned. Except he can’t seem to care. About anything… except for the one girl who keeps invading his dreams.

Despite Jax’s fuzzy memory of his hot hookup with his sister’s friend, he can’t stay away from her, even if it means breaking his own rules. But there are bigger forces at work–realities that can end Dani’s college career and lies that can tear them apart.

Jax realizes what he’s losing if Dani walks away, but will he sacrifice his future to be with her? And will she let him if he does?

FINDING DANDELION, the second book in the Dearest series, is a stand-alone novel. This New Adult romance is recommended for readers 18+ due to mature content.

My review 3

Why did I want to read this book?

I loved DEAREST CLEMENTINE and really enjoyed Lex Martin’s writing style so it’s no wonder I immediately got myself a copy of her second book after reading the first one. And I also loved that somehow convoluted but totally hooked me set-up described in the blurb.

What worked for me?

Gosh, Dani and Jax together was amazing to read. I loved their first meeting and while I’m not digging how they got to spend time together later, I was completely going to roll with it since these two are adorable.

They’ve both got plans for themselves and the future that they want. It’s so great when characters are focused like this. But yeah, there’s fate and it wants to intervene.  And as they spend more and more time together at Jax’s apartment, the closer they get to each other and to the things that could potentially cost them their future. I know I’m being a little vague here but it’ll be a shame to spill all the details here when you can totally enjoy reading as they unravel in the book. Suffice it to say that these two are far from perfect but you can totally get why they click and why, despite whatever misgivings they or other people have about them being together, you know in your gut that they totally do deserve to be together.

The conflicts that arise in the story are far from being unique but I was still able to appreciate them because they brought more of the true Jax and true Dani to the surface and we learned more about them. And because who gets to the HEA without a few bumps in the road right?

What did not work for me?

One of the conflicts had that Big Misunderstanding kind of quality to it that didn’t exactly totally work for me. But I understand the motivation for the author to include that one because it needed to be cleared up by the two characters. The conflict had its points for necessity but I wasn’t a fan of it per se.

My over-all take on it?

This was a great follow-up for author Lex Martin. Dani and Jax were just great to read about. The chemistry was there but so were the conflicts and yet it was very satisfying watching them go through all of them and still get to choose how their lives would turn out to be. You can totally start the series with this book since this and Dearest Clementine are both stand-alones. It’ll be even greater if you read both. Now, I can’t wait for Book 3, Kissing Madeline, who has got the most interesting of heroes.

My rating:

4 stars

About the author

I write new adult novels, the sexy kind with lotsa angst, a whole lotta kissing, and the hot happily ever afters. When I’m not writing, I live a parallel life as an English teacher. I love printing black and white photos, listening to music on vinyl, and getting lost in a great book. Bitten by wanderlust, I’ve lived all over the country but currently reside in the City of Angels with my husband and twin daughters.
