Hot off the Press: New Releases this January

Every month, there are always new releases to look forward to and the more there are books, the harder it is (at least, for me) to keep track of all the beautiful books I want to get on my shelf. So I decided to start this monthly post where I spotlight new releases for the month so (1) I can keep track of all of them  and (2) share them with all of you, see if you’ve got the same line-ups on your TBR shelf.

Happy New Year, you guys! Without further ado, here are the new releases that I’m looking forward to this January:

one night of trouble

AJ’s story. I’ve read it. And I’m completely in love with it.

Title: One Night of Trouble (After Hours #3)
Author: Elle Kennedy
Release Date: January 5, 2015

A sexy category romance from Entangled’s Brazen imprint…

No More Mr. Nice Guy…

The moment AJ Walsh sees the sexy, tattooed pixie walk up to his bar, it’s lust at first sight. He’s always been labeled the “nice” guy―opening doors, buying flowers, and never, ever having one-night stands. But with this wicked little angel with red lips and unfathomably dark eyes? Oh, yeah. Tonight, “nice” has nothing to do with it…

Brett Conlon is trying to convince her family that she’s put away her reckless wild girl side for good. Nothing―and no one―could be better for her reputation than golden boy AJ Walsh. So they make a deal: if he plays The Good Boyfriend for her family, he can be a very, very bad boy with her. Now their one naughty night is about to turn into a whole lot of trouble…

risking it all

A new Tessa Bailey book! ‘Nuff said.

Title: Risking It All (Crossing the Line #1)
Author: Tessa Bailey
Release Date: January 27, 2015

NYPD detective Seraphia Newsom will avenge her brother’s death at any cost. Even if it means insinuating herself into a rough, Brooklyn street gang and going so far undercover, she’s not sure she’ll be able to get out. Every minute she spends in their midst means the clock ticking down on her life, especially when she overhears something that could get her killed.

Bowen Driscol is the heir to a crime enterprise. He never asked for the job, but with his father behind bars, he has no choice but to step in and keep the operation running. But when the NYPD blackmails him with a piece of damning information in exchange for aiding an undercover cop, he finds himself on the other side of the law for the first time in his life.

Bowen knows the danger Sera is in, and keeping her safe trumps saving his own ass. The problem? She can’t know he’s on her side. And there’s the matter of the seriously inconvenient heat sparking between them that’s incinerating his resistance. But Sera only sees Bowen’s past, and men like him are the reason her brother is dead. If they’re to get out alive, he’ll have to risk exposing the man beneath, and hope to hell he doesn’t blow the whole operation in the process.

once upon a rose

I know this got delayed a little bit but the always amazing Laura Florand to give us a story worth telling and worth waiting for.

Title: Once Upon A Rose (La Vie en Roses #2)
Author: Laura Florand
Release Date: January 2015
She stole his roses.

Fleeing the spotlight, burnt-out indie rock star Layla—“Belle”—Dubois seeks refuge in the south of France. That old, half-forgotten stone house and rose-covered acres her father left her in a valley of roses seems like a good place to soothe a wounded heart. She certainly doesn’t expect the most dangerous threat to her heart to pounce on her as soon as she sets foot on the land.

He wants them back.

Matt didn’t mean to growl at her quite that loud. But—his roses! She can’t have his roses. Even if she does have all those curls and green eyes and, and, and…what was he growling about again?

Or maybe he just wants her.

When an enemy invades his valley and threatens his home, heart, and livelihood, Matthieu Rosier really knows only one way to defend himself.

It might involve kissing.

And that might be just the start.

i was here

A new book from author Gayle Forman. I’ve actually read the ARC for this and while it isn’t my favorite, it has that evocative quality you’d expect from her. Plus, what a compelling and provocative story line.

Title: I Was Here
Author: Gayle Forman
Release Date: January 27, 2015

Cody and Meg were inseparable.
Two peas in a pod.
Until . . . they weren’t anymore.

When her best friend Meg drinks a bottle of industrial-strength cleaner alone in a motel room, Cody is understandably shocked and devastated. She and Meg shared everything—so how was there no warning? But when Cody travels to Meg’s college town to pack up the belongings left behind, she discovers that there’s a lot that Meg never told her. About her old roommates, the sort of people Cody never would have met in her dead-end small town in Washington. About Ben McAllister, the boy with a guitar and a sneer, who broke Meg’s heart. And about an encrypted computer file that Cody can’t open—until she does, and suddenly everything Cody thought she knew about her best friend’s death gets thrown into question.

I Was Here is Gayle Forman at her finest, a taut, emotional, and ultimately redemptive story about redefining the meaning of family and finding a way to move forward even in the face of unspeakable loss.

the secrets of sir richard kenworthy

The fourth and final book in the Smythe-Smith quartet series from Julia Quinn. I can’t wait.

Title: The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy (Smythe-Smith Quartet #4)
Author: Julia Quinn
Release Date: January 27, 2015
Sir Richard Kenworthy has less than a month to find a bride. He knows he can’t be too picky, but when he sees Iris Smythe-Smith hiding behind her cello at her family’s infamous musicale, he thinks he might have struck gold. She’s the type of girl you don’t notice until the second—or third—look, but there’s something about her, something simmering under the surface, and he knows she’s the one.

Iris Smythe–Smith is used to being underestimated. With her pale hair and quiet, sly wit she tends to blend into the background, and she likes it that way. So when Richard Kenworthy demands an introduction, she is suspicious. He flirts, he charms, he gives every impression of a man falling in love, but she can’t quite believe it’s all true. When his proposal of marriage turns into a compromising position that forces the issue, she can’t help thinking that he’s hiding something . . . even as her heart tells her to say yes.

girl before a mirror

I received an eARC for this. Yay. I can’t wait to start it.

Title: Girl Before A Mirror
Author: Liza Palmer
Release Date: January 27, 2015
The author of Conversations with a Fat Girl—optioned for HBO—returns with the hilarious and heartfelt story of a woman who must learn how to be the heroine of her own life-a journey that will teach her priceless lessons about love, friendship, family, work, and her own heart

An account executive in a Mad Men world, Anna Wyatt is at a crossroads. Recently divorced, she’s done a lot of emotional housecleaning, including a self-imposed dating sabbatical. But now that she’s turned forty, she’s struggling to figure out what her life needs. Brainstorming to win over an important new client, she discovers a self-help book—Be the Heroine, Find Your Hero—that offers her unexpected insights and leads her to a most unlikely place: a romance writers’ conference. If she can sign the Romance Cover Model of the Year Pageant winner for her campaign—and meet the author who has inspired her to take control of her life—she’ll win the account.

For Anna, taking control means taking chances, including getting to know Sasha, her pretty young colleague on the project, and indulging in a steamy elevator ride with Lincoln Mallory, a dashing financial consultant she meets in the hotel. When the conference ends, Anna and Lincoln must decide if their intense connection is strong enough to survive outside the romantic fantasy they’ve created. Yet Lincoln is only one of Anna’s dilemmas. Now that her campaign is off the ground, others in the office want to steal her success, and her alcoholic brother, Ferdie, is spiraling out of control.

To have the life she wants-to be happy without guilt, to be accepted for herself, to love and to be loved, to just be—she has to put herself first, accept her imperfections, embrace her passions, and finally be the heroine of her own story.

  2. So excited for the next Julia Quinn! I don’t always *love* her books, but they bring a smile to my face. She’s one of those consistent HR writers I’ll always read. Also excited for A Girl Before a Mirror.
I read I Was Here just a little bit ago and was unfortunately disappointed. :/

    1. I know exactly what you mean about JQ. Her latest series was a hit and miss for me but I think I’m still going to read all of her new releases 🙂 And sorry to heart that Gayle Forman’s next release didn’t work out for you that well. There’s always the next? lol 🙂
