Can I survive a ‘Me Before You’ sequel?

After YouSo I just learned that author Jojo Moyes will be releasing a sequel to ME BEFORE YOU titled AFTER YOU.

Even the titles alone are making my heart hurt already. It’s not really the titles per se, although, my gosh, they do get you in the heart and they make you feel this emotion that seems to be dedicated just for this story.

It’s the feels, oh my gosh, the FEELS that are now breaking through my consciousness again and making me remember just how much this book broke me, just splintered me into tiny little pieces. I can still remember how it felt after I finished reading Me Before You and after learning that there’s going to be a sequel? I don’t know if my heart can take any more. I really don’t. But the curiosity might just be the end of me because of course I want to know what happens to Lou next. I want to know what happens in After You.

Have you read Me Before You? Did you know the author is going to release a sequel? Do you think you’ll read it? Are you just as anxious and/or excited about it as I am?

Back from the (unintentional) hiatus!

Hi everyone! Yes, it is me. 🙂 And I’ve missed you, guys!

I know I haven’t been that present on the blog and the in the rest of book blogging world. I have been able to post a couple of review and excerpt posts here and there since April but I haven’t really been with you guys as much as I would have wanted.

As many of you know, I made a big move last April, changing my address from one country to another. And it has been exhilarating as it was a bit challenging. I’ve successfully moved from Manila to Tokyo and so far, everything’s been really good. I’m not feeling homesick (so far!) so I guess that’s a good thing.

The DUFF: Movie Trailer

So, I’ve been seeing this around and I didn’t watch it at first, although I did recognize Robbie Amell. But Angie @ Angieville posted this on her blog as well and then I find out that this is based on a book and that DUFF means Designated Ugly Fat Friend. So color me intrigued. Then I watched the trailer and really enjoyed the tone and the surprising chemistry between the lead stars. So I immediately bought a copy and read the book in one sitting. Now, I’m even more excited to see the film.

What do you guys think about this trailer? Have your read Kody Keplinger’s book? Are you also (im)patiently waiting for this movie’s release?

Book Summary

Mia Devine plans over-the-top weddings for a living. So when it comes to her own nuptials, she spares no expense—hand engraved invitations, Vera Wang gown, luxury honeymoon in France. And since her fiancé is Tucker Branch, playboy heir and notorious flirt, local media is obsessed with every little detail.

Which is why it really sucks when he jilts her a week before the wedding.

Mortified, Mia wants nothing more than to crawl under her newly monogrammed sheets and plan a funeral for her dignity, right after blabbing to the world how fitting it is that Tucker will inherit a bolt and screw company, because that’s all he wants to do—screw, and bolt. And he doesn’t do either with much finesse.

When her friends convince her that bitter tastes better when it’s drowned in Bordeaux, she grits her teeth and packs her bags, determined to make the best of a week in Paris alone.

She never planned on meeting Lucas Fournier.

The free-spirited musician’s scruffy good looks and less-than-sympathetic ear annoy her at first, but when she takes him up on his offer to show her around the city, she discovers that the romance of Paris isn’t just a myth.

Nor is the simultaneous O.

The last thing Mia needs is another doomed love affair, but since she only has a week, she figures she might as well enjoy La Vie en O with Lucas while she can. But each day—and night—with him is better than the last, and suddenly her heart is telling her this is more than a rebound fling.

Is it just the seduction of Paris…or could this be the real thing?

About the Author

Melanie Harlow likes her martinis dry, her lipstick red, and her history with the naughty bits left in. She’s a 20th century fanatic and gets her kicks from historical fiction and TV series like Boardwalk Empire, Magic City, Deadwood, Mad Men, and Downtown Abbey (although she wishes it were more HBO and less PBS). Her debut novel, Speak Easy, was inspired by Detroit’s fascinating Prohibition-era history.

YA Bound presents A Cover Reveal for Twelve Steps by Veronica Bartles

Title: Twelve Steps

Author: Veronica Bartles

Release Date: March 25, 2014

Book Summary:

Sixteen-year-old Andi is tired of being a second-class sibling to perfect sister Laina. There in Laina’s shadow, Andi’s only noticeable feature is her pretty awesome hair. And even that is eclipsed by Laina’s perfect everything else.

When Andi’s crush asks her to fix him up with Laina, Andi decides enough is enough and devises a twelve-step program to wrangle the spotlight away from Laina. After all, great hair must count for something.

Step 1: Admit she’s powerless to change her perfect sister, and accept that her life really, really sucks. OK, maybe that’s two steps in one.

Step 4: Make a list of her good qualities besides great hair. There have got to be at least three good qualities, right?

Step 7: Demand attention for more than just her shortcomings, and break out of her shell. Easier said that done, but worth the effort in the long-run.

When a stolen kiss from her crush ends in disaster, Andi finds that her prince isn’t as charming as she’d hoped, and realizes she may need a new program–perhaps with less steps!

As cracks in Laina’s flawless façade begin to show, the sisters work together to find a spotlight big enough for both to shine.

About the Author:

veronica_bartlesAs the second of eight children and the mother of four, Veronica Bartles is no stranger to the ups and downs of sibling relationships. (She was sandwiched between the gorgeous-and-insanely-popular older sister and the too-adorable-for-words younger sister.) She uses this insight to write stories about siblings who mostly love each other, even while they’re driving one another crazy.   When she isn’t writing or getting lost in the pages of her newest favorite book, Veronica enjoys knitting fabulous bags and jewelry out of recycled plastic bags and old VHS tapes, sky diving (though she hasn’t actually tried that yet), and inventing the world’s most delectable cookie recipes.

TWELVE STEPS is Veronica Bartles’s first novel.

Cover Reveal: Forged by Desire by Bec McMaster

I adore Bec McMaster’s London Steampunk series. And I’m looking forward to the next two books that she has in store for us. Book 4 in the series titled Forged by Desire is scheduled for release in September 2014. Bec McMaster shares with her readers the book’s gorgeous cover.

*Squeals* I love this cover! It’s so beautiful and I just love how the colors really give off that steampunk London atmosphere that’s the background for the world that Bec McMaster has created.

Here’s the book blurb from Goodreads:

Captain Garret Reed of the Nighthawk guard has a deadly mission: capture a steel-jawed monster preying on women. He hates to put his partner, Perry, in jeopardy, but she’s the best bait he has. Little does he realize, he’s about to be caught in his own trap.

Perry has been half in love with Garrett for years, but this is not exactly the best time to start a relationship—especially when their investigation leads them directly into the clutches of the madman she thought she’d escaped…

I can’t wait to read Garrett and Perry’s book. Bec McMaster did such an outstanding job with My Lady Quicksilver and I’m looking forward to what she has to offer her readers with this next installment in the series.

Sign up for Bec McMaster‘s Newsletter here to read an excerpt of Forged by Desire and also have a chance to win an ARC copy, open to international readers. Yay!

This Just In: Kisses, She Wrote by Katharine Ashe

The Christmas season is really gaining speed. And it’s the season for Christmas novels and novellas too. I already have the eARC of Kiss Me on This Cold December Night by Charlotte Phillips and now I just received my ebook purchase of Katharine Ashe‘s novella Kisses, She Wrote. Out today, December 3, 2013.

Do you guys have any suggestions for novels or novellas with a Christmas theme? I’d love to hear about them.

Christmas in town has never been so steamy . . .

Handsome as sin and scandalously rakish, Cam Westfall, the Earl of Bedwyr, is every young lady’s wickedest dream. Shy wallflower Princess Jacqueline of Sensaire knows this better than anyone, because her dreams are full of the breathtaking earl’s kisses. And not only her dreams—her diary, too.

But when Cam discovers the maiden’s not-so-maidenly diary, will her wildest Christmas wishes be fulfilled in its pages . . . or in his arms?

About the author:

katharine asheIn 2012 Amazon chose Katharine’s How To Be a Proper Lady as one of the Ten Best Romances of the Year. Upon the publication of her debut in 2010, the American Library Association named Katharine among its “New Stars of Historical Romance”. She is a two-time nominee and 2011 winner of the Reviewers’ Choice Awards for Best Historical Romantic Adventure, and her novella A Lady’s Wish launched HarperCollins Publishers’ Avon Impulse imprint in 2011. Her books have been recommended by Woman’s World Magazine, Booklist, Library Journal, Barnes & Noble, theSan Francisco & Sacramento Book Review, Durham County Libraries, and the Library of Virginia.

Katharine lives in the wonderfully warm Southeast with her husband, son, dog, and a garden she likes to call romantic rather than unkempt. A professor of European history, she has made her home in California, Italy, France, and the northern US. She adores hearing from readers.

Release Day: Sarah MacLean, Laura Florand, Katie McGarry, Laura Kaye

It’s one of those days (well technically it was yesterday in my part of the world) when a lot of awesome books have come available for our consumption. At last. After weeks and days of waiting. Here are some of the books that I can’t wait to get and read.

News: Cover Reveal of Shield of Winter by Nalini Singh

Heroes and Heartbreakers recently posted the exclusive cover reveal of Nalini Singh’s next book, the highly anticipated Book #13 of her Psy-Changeling series, Shield of Winter.

And here you go…

Scheduled for release on June 4, 2014, this next installment features the enigmatic and highly (and I mean highly) secretive Vasic. I like this cover but my favorites are the editions published by Gollancz (which you can see here). I want to see that edition for this book as well.

Here’s the blurb from Goodreads:

Assassin. Soldier. Arrow. That is who Vasic is, who he will always be. His soul drenched in blood, his conscience heavy with the weight of all he’s done, he exists in the shadows, far from the hope his people can almost touch—if only they do not first drown in the murderous insanity of a lethal contagion. To stop the wave of death, Vasic must complete the simplest and most difficult mission of his life.

For if the Psy race is to survive, the empaths must wake…

Having rebuilt her life after medical “treatment” that violated her mind and sought to stifle her abilities, Ivy should have run from the black-clad Arrow with eyes of winter frost. But Ivy Jane has never done what she should. Now, she’ll fight for her people, and for this Arrow who stands as her living shield, yet believes he is beyond redemption. But as the world turns to screaming crimson, even Ivy’s fierce will may not be enough to save Vasic from the cold darkness…

I. Can’t. Wait.

News: Cover Release from Rainbow Rowell

Rainbow Rowell recently blogged about the release of the cover of her upcoming novel Landline. Check this out…

This cover’s actually done by Olga Grlic, Rainbow says, who also did the covers for Eleanor and Park and Fangirl. RedRotaryPhone_Landline-725x725I actually liked the old red landline phone that Rainbow had posted earlier in her blog but this one’s cute too.

Here’s the blurb from her website:

Georgie McCool knows her marriage is in trouble. That it’s been in trouble for a long time. She still loves her husband, Neal, and Neal still loves her, deeply — but that almost seems besides the point now.

Maybe that was always besides the point.

Two days before they’re supposed to visit Neal’s family in Omaha for Christmas, Georgie tells Neal that she can’t go. She’s a TV writer, and something’s come up on her show; she has to stay in Los Angeles. She knows that Neal will be upset with her — Neal is always a little upset with Georgie — but she doesn’t expect to him to pack up the kids and go home without her.

When her husband and the kids leave for the airport, Georgie wonders if she’s finally done it. If she’s ruined everything.

That night, Georgie discovers a way to communicate with Neal in the past. It’s not time travel, not exactly, but she feels like she’s been given an opportunity to fix her marriage before it starts . . .

Is that what she’s supposed to do?

Or would Georgie and Neal be better off if they never got married at all?

Landline will come out in July 2014. (Sooo far away…) But since I think I’ll be reading whatever Rainbow Rowell will be writing, I just have to endure the more than half a year wait…

Don’t forget to check out her earlier books, which are A-MA-ZING, by the way.
