Last Week on the blog

This has been a very rainy week here in Tokyo. There was a typhoon that hit Japan and sadly caused devastating destruction in prefectures north of Japan. It was heartbreaking watching videos of towns flooded and houses just swept, literally swept away by flood waters. And on Saturday, I experience my third (or was it fourth?) earthquake. I was brushing my teeth at 6:00 in the morning (because I was going out of town) when I heard this thundering noise and I initially thought that people were breaking in (which is really wide imagination on my part) but it turned out that the floorboards and the glass doors to the kitchen were rattling because of the earthquake. It wasn’t that big in intensity, around 5.4 magnitude I heard. But the epicenter was pretty close to Tokyo so maybe that’s why it felt stronger than it actually was. Don’t worry, everything’s great. As you all may know already, earthquakes are pretty common experiences here in Japan.

Sunday Post (61): Sudden opportunities and new experiences!

Last Week on the blog

So, I was able to post just one review this past week. I had something urgent come up that took me away half of the week, plus other commitments so I wasn’t able to get my posts ready. I participated in an English summer camp for Japanese high school students and it was so much fun. The kids were really adorable and really bright. By the time the camp was over, I had a bad case of separation anxiety from my kids (the ones assigned to be in my group). This past week, I was able to experience teaching basic English to older people. It was a bit different from the summer camps I’ve attended because it had a more class-set-up kind of thing going on. But both instances have been really good and experiences for me.

Last Week on the blog

Last week, a couple of my friends and I visited a Cat Cafe here in Tokyo and I was running in high adrenaline all the time I was there. There were just too cute and it eased a bit of the feeling of missing my own cat for just a while.

I also visited two big bookstores here, which offers books in English. I’m fine with reading my e-books, but sometimes you’ve got to have an actual book to page through too, you know. The selection is not what I hope it would be and I understand that. I might give in to the temptation of Book Depository or Amazon again. But that takes time to arrive as well. But thank god for e-books now!

Last Week on the blog

And…I’m back doing the Sunday Post again after a few months. Yay!

The early half of last week, I went into an English Summer Camp with junior high Japanese students. That was really tiring but it had been such a blast. The rest of the week I spent cooped up in my room (haha) since I seriously had to re-charge my energy and what better way to do that than to eat, read, and sleep. 🙂

Last Week on the blog

I am so full! Full of food, full of friendship, and full of love. This past week, I’ve spent a lot of time dining out with friends and family since I’m nearing my last week here in Manila before my move to Tokyo. I tried my best not to cry so much when it was time to say goodbye but I’ll probably be crying buckets at the airport on Friday.

My cat seems to be recovering well from her spay operation. We’re going back to the vet today for her follow-up check-up. She seems to be forgetting sometimes that she still has an operation wound because she jumped several times and the vet said that as much as possible she shouldn’t be jumping. I did spend a lot of time monitoring her in the house so I am currently behind on my preparations for my departure. On the other hand, I did get some reading done.

Last Week on the blog

It’s less than two weeks before my departure. I’ve taken a leave of absence from work already so I have more time to prepare and have my farewell dinners lined up for the next two weeks. Yesterday, I’ve met my fellow scholars who will be living in Tokyo as well so yay! I’m glad I wouldn’t be completely alone on this new journey.

I was able to do a bit of reading this past week but very minimal. I still had lots of errands to do. I might bring paperbacks with me to Japan, though. Maybe three or four.

Last Week on the blog

My booking for the place I plan to stay in Tokyo has already been confirmed! Yay! That’s one major concern off my back now. The whole family’s excited for me but at the same time, we are definitely having ‘sad, crying’ moments already. Two  years is a long time to be away from family. But I trust that everything will work out.

I still haven’t done any significant reading this past week. Hectic is my new normal, apparently. But I hope you guys were able to enjoy the reviews I published this past week. Great books!

Last Week on the blog

Everything’s still very hectic. No news there. My cat still hasn’t been spayed because we’re still doing the blood test to check if she’s okay to go through the operation. I do have to take her again to the vet on Monday since the blood sample they took from her was no longer good for the tests needed. T___T

I’ve now found a place I would like to live in in Tokyo but I’m still arranging everything about the room rental. I hope I’ll be able to finish that one within next week so that it’ll be one thing less to worry about for me.

Unfortunately, I haven’t done much reading this week. Fortunately, I have reviews of great books lined up this upcoming week.

Everything’s still very hectic this past week. It’s just now that I’m realizing I still have a lot that I need to do before I leave for Japan. And yes, I was already informed that my flight is on April 3rd. *kyaaahh* I hope I don’t get too overwhelmed with everything that has been happening. I’m planning to have my cat spayed before I leave so I hope you’ll all wish her good health and a smooth and safe operation.
